WAS-H is thrilled to welcome master artist Kathleen Conover to teach a Major Workshop!  Kathleen’s CHAOS to ORDER: Experimental Watermedia workshop, October 7-10, 2024, promises to inspire and challenge. Kathleen also will serve as juror and judge for this year's Annual Members Exhibit (AME).

Kathleen’s work has been juried into more than 200 exhibitions, receiving national and international recognition for the vision, innovative techniques, and fearless expression that characterize her unique designs.

Painting from an early age, Kathleen was influenced by teachers and artists in the fertile environment of Southern California’s prominent artists, museums and galleries as well as by early international travels. She studied undergraduate fine arts at San Diego State University, finished her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Washington in Seattle and earned her Master of Arts in Fine Art degree from Northern Michigan University. Continued study with American master watercolor artists over the next decade enriched her depth, understanding, skill and personal painting style. To learn more about Kathleen click on this link:  Conover Introduction

An introduction to Kathleen’s teaching is included in a three-part YouTube video in “Workshops” on her website, www.kathleenconover.com

Class Objectives: Demonstrations, a 9-page syllabus plus additional handouts, individual attention and independent work time will enable understanding and application of new information and processes. Specific lessons on creating exciting textures, using "Gesso Juice", layering, expressive mark making, color concepts, how to do a value study, understanding composition and more will be presented.  “Most of all,” Kathleen says, “I want to help each artist advance to the next level in their own work – no matter where they start.”

Course description: Students will create dynamic art by starting 12 paintings (11x15”) with color, texture, pattern, gestural marks and more, on day one. This may seem like “chaos,” but this practice delivers vital beginning energy that is intuitive, necessary, and fun! Strong design and composition are the elements that bring “order” to the rich starts and turn them into an attention-getting and expressive finished (at least 3) works. Beginner to advanced students welcome – students are encouraged to explore and strengthen their unique expression in realism, abstraction or non-objectivity. Students are encouraged to bring your sense of adventure and enthusiasm for this high-energy and informative workshop.
