General Meeting and Demo
Sunday, July 6
2:00 p.m. To 3:00 p.m.
Demo Artist: Les McDonald, Jr. – Capturing Nature in Watercolor
Les McDonald, Jr. transforms fleeting moments in nature into timeless watercolor works. A lifelong Texan, Les grew up on the Gulf Coast in Port O’Connor, where his love of wildlife began. After earning a B.S. in Commercial Art from Sam Houston State, he spent nearly two decades in advertising before becoming a full-time artist in 1986.
Les painted his first duck in sixth grade, inspired by a hunting trip—and he’s been painting waterfowl ever since. From Port Lavaca fairs to national wildlife shows, his art has gained widespread acclaim. He's traveled from Alaska to Argentina, always in search of new inspiration.
His award-winning work has supported conservation causes for decades. Les was named Texas Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year (2004–05), Waterfowl U.S.A. Artist of the Year multiple times, and featured as a sponsor print artist for several leading wildlife organizations.
Today, Les’s paintings are showcased in galleries and major wildlife art shows across the country. His passion for nature and commitment to conservation continue to shape a celebrated artistic journey.
