July 2024

July 7 @ 2 pm

General Meeting/Demo Starts at 2 pm

Demo Artist:  Dr. Mohammad Bhatti who will show how to add drama to your watercolor portraits.

About the Artist for July 7, 2024

Dr. Mohammad Ali Bhatti is an accomplished abstract, portrait painter and art professor. Born and raised in Pakistan, he traveled to the United States and earned an MFA from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and a PhD in Interdisciplinary Arts from Ohio University in 1998.

Dr. Bhatti joined WAS-H in 2015 as a member, and in 2020, he became an Elite Member. He has received numerous awards in WAS-H shows and exhibitions, and has  taught numerous courses to share his artistic expertise. He believes that “less is more” in watercolor painting, and his sweeping brush strokes and transparent washes build up form and depth, allowing light to shine through layers.

In this month’s demonstration, Dr. Bhatti will paint a portrait with loose and strong contrasts between light and dark “chiaroscuro,” creating an illusion of three-dimensionality.

This last year, Les achieved signature membership at American Watercolor Society.

In this demo, Les will show basic wet-on-wet application techniques for painting water and sky. He will also demonstrate dry brush application techniques, perfect for achieving wood grain textures.
