About Arthur Deatly: Arthur Deatly is a Houston-based painter specializing in plein air works that capture the urban landscapes of the Gulf Coast. Working in oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, and ink, his expressive style reflects years of on-site observation and exploration.
A former public school art teacher with over 20 years of experience, Arthur has taught all levels—from elementary to high school—and has led classes at the Pearl Fincher Museum. His teaching philosophy centers on creating safe, process-focused environments that encourage growth through experimentation.
Since 2011, Arthur has actively exhibited and sold his work, primarily through the First Saturday Art Market. He has received multiple awards in Texas plein air competitions, including recent honors in Buda, Columbus, and Galveston.
Arthur holds a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and a certification in all levels of art instruction. He continues to create and teach with a focus on community, creativity, and the joy of painting outdoors.
