The most important part about painting with watercolor is understanding the behavior of the pigment and surface.  In this online workshop, we will explore the watercolor fundamentals and techniques often forgotten or taken for granted, such as understanding the influences of gravity and environment on paint management, and the importance of good timing for varied effects.   

This is an excellent course for beginners and experienced painters alike. This open and interactive course will spotlight the instructor’s palette, work surface, and reference in real time, so you can directly see exactly how he mixes and applies paint. The process will be step by step based with short demos so you can take time to follow along and ask questions all the way to the finished painting.

Links to a video recording of each session will be provided, should you miss a class or want to review a session. Links remain available for ​120 days.

• Day 1 – Considerations of Color Theory, Value & Brush Technique

• • Construct simple color wheel and value scale
  • Practicing flat and gradient washes with control and good timing 
  • Project: Simple still-life to study important value relationships

Day 2 – Applicable Effects & Process of Painting (The this, then that.)

• • Practicing layered and dynamic color mixing
  • Learning how to break down a composition into clear steps 
  • Project: Expressive Landscape - bringing it all together
