Paint-Ins for Members

Paint-Ins are a single-day class for WAS-H members only, taught usually the first Saturday of the month. Paint-Ins are an opportunity to learn a new technique or fit a class into a busy schedule. The fee is $40, and free for gold and silver level members. Seats are limited and registration is required.  Students bring their own supplies, unless otherwise stated.

    Paint a holiday painting that you can use as a Christmas card or a festive family memento to be treasured for years to come. Bring a special ornament to work into the still life composition, and then we will plug in the lights!


    Materials Needed:

    1/2 sheet or 1/4 sheet cold pressed Arches watercolor paper

    variety of brushes

    Watercolor palette that you normally use

        (put out some fresh paint!)

    Water container

    Paper towels

    Pencil

    Birds of a Feather

    Using a very limited palette of five colors, students will learn mixing on the palette, color mixing on the paper, wet on wet techniques, glazing, composition strategies, handling water, brush work, and creating textures.  

    Materials Needed

    PAPER: 1 Full Sheet of 140lb or 300lb Arches Cold Press Watercolor Paper.  Students can split a sheet of paper or do two paintings

    • If using 140lb, bring an 11x14 gator board to tape the paper down to

    PAINT:  Auroelin Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Rose Madder Genuine, and Pthalo green, Alizarin Crimson 

    BRUSH: 1 #10 or #12 round watercolor brush with a fine point (recommend Princeton LONG Round #12, handle is maroon)

    Other Supplies: 

    Roll of Paper towels

    Pencil

    Masking tape - tan (not blue or green please)

    Eraser
