  Art for Seniors IN PERSON

  Wednesday

  April 22

  9:30 am - Noon

  Diann Zimmerman

  "Springtime"

I’m excited to lead our senior class in painting this joyful little bird perched on a cherry‑blossom branch. Everything about this scene just sings springtime — the soft petals, the lively pose of the bird, and that feeling of fresh color returning to the world. It’s a cheerful subject that invites playfulness and personal expression.

Before the class, please trace the outline onto watercolor paper using a black waterproof ink pen. I use a Micron pen because once it is dry, it doesn’t smear, but feel free to use any waterproof fineliner you have. I'll have copies of the outline to trace in class if needed. (For a larger view/version of the tracing, you can right click the tracing and then click "open image in new tab".)

Colors I’ll be using: Permanent Rose, Sap Green, Lemon Yellow, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Quinacridone Gold, and Transparent Orange. But truly — use whatever colors you have on hand. Your bird can be blue, red, gold, purple… whatever inspires you and brings you joy.

Brushes: I’ll be painting with my trusty inexpensive round #8 brush. It has served me well for years, and it’s a reminder that you don’t need fancy tools to make something beautiful.

This will be a lighthearted, fun session perfect for celebrating the season. I can’t wait to paint with you and see all the unique, colorful birds that emerge from your brushes.

See you on Wednesday, April 22nd!

Diann Zimmerman’s journey into art began in 2018 after a traumatic brain injury left her searching for relief. What started as a way to ease physical pain soon became something much deeper—a source of healing, joy, and connection. Through art, she discovered not only comfort but a calling.

Today, Diann is a thriving artist, educator, and founder of Watercolor – Beginners and Beyond, a vibrant Facebook group of over 335,000 artists from every corner of the globe. Her teachings—shared through Patreon and online challenges—are filled with warmth, encouragement, and a belief in fearless creativity.

Her mission is simple yet powerful: to empower artists of all skill levels to explore their creativity with courage and kindness, building a global community where artistic growth is nurtured through compassion, inspiration, and shared knowledge.

Her art—often playful, bold, and fearless—is a reflection of the optimism she brings to everything she does, from brushstroke to community leadership.

Each Wednesday we host an art gathering for Seniors.  This is a friendly and supportive group - all levels are welcome to join and there is no fee for this class however, online registration is required to participate.

Students bring their own supplies (paper, paints, brushes, paper towels, etc.) - only water-media please.

This weekly event is a community outreach to seniors 55+ only.

Safety Alert: Individuals attending this activity should be aware that they require the ability to safely descend stairs in an emergency.
