Larry Spitzberg

In the style of Nita Engle

Point Lobos State Natural Reserve

Nita Engle was such a rebel, and her art style is daring and controversial but always fun to try. We will try to emulate her experimental style of loose watercolor painting and have fun in the process. I will have photos from her book on how she works.

Do a pencil drawing ahead of time from the landscape photo I have provided and add plenty of frisket/masking fluid to the areas that you want to protect so that in class we can flood the remaining areas with plenty of paint. Bring a squirt bottle.

We can also go over the history of watercolor, briefly. Part 1 of watercolor art history will cover from cave paintings to the Golden Age of Watercolor with paint and paper innovations along the way. In part 2 of watercolor history, we will look at paintings of 4 giants of watercolor.

Larry has been an optometrist, inventor, and toy collector. Now retired he is a WAS-H Elite Signature member and an art history buff. The rebels of art history intrigue him the most. Never satisfied with one art style he looks to paint whatever style strikes his fancy.

Each Wednesday we host an art gathering for Seniors.  This is a friendly and supportive group - all levels are welcome to join and there is no fee for this class however, online registration is required to participate.

Students bring their own supplies - only water-media please.

This weekly event is a community outreach to seniors 55+ only.
