When we hear the word “gesso” we think of what oil and acrylic painters use as a ground on their canvas. Gesso also works on watercolor paper to create a surface perfect for watermedia – we can paint and easily lift to “sculpt” our paintings – adding and subtracting until we are satisfied with the results. We can also use gesso like a resist to preserve our whites and create more expressive watercolors. Sign up to learn what this inexpensive medium “gesso” can do to jumpstart your creativity.

Level: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced

Supply List: Bring all of your regular watercolor supplies, paints, brushes and paper. Please bring paper in different states – clean new watercolor paper (preferably cotton) to use gesso as a resist, an old painting or two to gesso over completely (we will use the paper as a support and do a whole new painting on it), and also a painting that held a lot of promise but has lost its glow of light that we can hopefully resuscitate using gesso.

Due to the on-going pandemic, masks are required at all in-person events/classes until further notice.
