Urban sketching is a form of reportage: drawings or paintings created on-site,

as a spontaneous response to people, places or incidents. It is the act of placing oneself in a space, attempting to capture and interpret a particular moment in time. Though one can use any medium for urban sketching, pencil and ink drawings colored with watercolor are most common. In this class, we will discuss the history and methodology of urban watercolor sketching, examine different approaches and styles (such as postcard sketching, travel sketching, reportage sketching, mixed media, and Japanese etegami) and create our own urban watercolor sketches!

Level: all

Due to the on-going pandemic, masks are required at all in-person events/classes until further notice.

Note: This class will also be streamed in our Virtual Classroom, for those who prefer to attend online. Register for online at this link:  https://watercolorhouston.org/event-4466469
