With the use of Japanese rice paper, watercolors, and hot wax comes a freedom of expression and a textural depth that surprises. While most painting is additive (bringing the scene to view from white paper), this method is subtractive with the wax covering the chosen area. Removal of the wax then reveals an intriguing piece that can be displayed showing the back or front.
