VIRTUAL - Painting Light & Shadows

Carla Gauthier

Wednesdays, Sept. 9 & 16

1:00-4:00 Central Time

$80

Can't have one without the other! But how do we use paint and paper to get that warm glow, that sense of light in our painting? In this class we will cover strengthening your value structure, color recipes, how to layer color and how to create shadows that unify your painting and are convincing. This will be a two week class. A write up, photo and traceable drawing will be sent to you beforehand, so that you can paint along if you wish. During our first class, I will cover the basics of how we accentuate the light and shadow we see in our photos. We will take the ideas from a few different photos, exploring options. Then I will start our group painting with the photo in mind, layering color, and finishing the painting during this demo. You will be either painting along, or during the week between classes. Then in the second class we will be able to see your work on a site that allows us all to see what you have finished. There is both an opportunity for feedback on your work, answers to questions and mini demonstrations, like those in in-person classes, that allow for a polished finish to your individual work.

Note: Please note that registration will close Monday, September 7 at noon Central Time. Please register early. Handouts and ZOOM links will be mailed to all participants after registration closes.
