Frida: The Making of an Icon – A Day of Discovery and Creation

Dr. Missy Gaido Allen and Katherine Rodgers

One-Day Workshop

Sunday, January 11

10:00 am - 4 pm

$75 Members/$85 Non-Members

In anticipation of the upcoming Frida: The Making of an Icon exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, spend the morning with Dr. Missy Gaido Allen as she brings Frida Kahlo’s remarkable story to life in vivid, cinematic detail. Discover how Frida transformed pain into power—from the bus accident that shattered her spine (and sparked her artistic journey) to her struggle to be seen as more than “the wife” of Diego Rivera. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of how Frida’s life, love, and loss shaped one of the most enduring artistic legacies of the 20th century.

After a break for lunch, artist Katherine Rodgers will guide you in creating your own Frida-inspired artwork—drawing on symbolism, heightened emotion, and hidden meaning. Whether or not you include a self-portrait, you’ll craft a piece that tells your story in the spirit of Frida’s fearless expression.
