VIRTUAL: Basics of Impressionism Applied to Beautiful Landscapes of France

Jean-François Arnaud

Wednesday mornings

February 5, 12, 19, 26

10:00am - 12:00pm

$120 members/$160 non-members

Four Lessons:
Lesson 1:
The goal is to master the basics of watercolor. Together, we will paint a small, miniature landscape, applying the foundational techniques I will have demonstrated. The two-hour session is divided into two parts.
In the first hour, I will teach you the basic techniques and walk you through my process. In the second hour, we will paint together, incorporating Impressionist principles into watercolor. Our objective is to prepare for the next three lessons, focusing on painting the light, not the details.
Lesson 2 :
A quintessential feature of the French landscape is its small Mediterranean harbors, adorned with charming boats that float and reflect on the serene waters. Together, we will paint a maritime scene—a picturesque harbor—offering the perfect opportunity to delve into the transparency of water.
Lesson 3 :
Do you love Van Gogh? We will set up our easels in the very spot where Vincent van Gogh once placed his. Together, we will paint a landscape of Arles, the city where Vincent was at his most prolific.
Lesson 4 :
A French village?
Yes, but which one?
The most famous ones are often the most painted, but have you heard of Mourèze? A charming, ancient village, little-known and tucked away in a remote location. Its access may be challenging, but the reward is immense when you finally arrive and its unique architecture unfolds before your eyes!
I can only hope you will enjoy painting it as much as I cherish the experience

Links to a video recording of each session will be provided, should you miss a class or want to review a session. Links remain available for 120 days.
