Level: All
Creating a meaningful portrait requires more than just capturing a likeness. Successful portraits can also convey the personality, mood, and emotions of a subject. Open to all levels, this course will investigate rendering in charcoal, pencil, and other dry media. In this hands-on workshop, participants will study the skeletal structure of the head, muscles, and facial features in order to master proportion, tone, and scale. Artists will also explore line, value, gesture, and perspective. Demonstrations will cover how to attain dramatic variations in lighting, composition, and orientation to create powerful portraits that reflect the unique character of a subject.
