Chinese brush painting provides a wonderful opportunity to closely observe nature. One key element of this distinctive style is the influence the materials have on form and technique. Each technique will be introduced with hands-on, step by step instruction. This class we will focus on 8 unique Chinese brush painting techniques.

Supply list

Brushes; Two fine tip brush for lines work, two small combination brushes(white bristles surrounded with brown bristles in inner), a large combination brush.

Paper: Shimmer paper or Extra Thin Cicada Wing paper (2 sheets of 54"x 27")

A box of Marie’s watercolor, 12 or 18 tubes

A bottle of Sumi-e ink or Chinese ink.

A soft pencil, a painting mat, four paper weights such as rocks, a roll of paper towels, a foam board 18 x 24", a couple of 18 x 24" drawing papers.

A wash jar or a small container, couple of porcelain dishes for mixing colors.
