Paint-Ins are a single day class, usually taught the third Saturday of the month, from 9:00am - 3:30pm. It's a great opportunity to learn a new technique or squeeze in a class with your busy schedule. Registration is required.

SEPTEMBER MONTHLY PAINT-IN: Seeing the Light with Mark Stewart

    Class:  9:30-3:00 on September 21, 2019

Mark Stewart, a WAS-H signature elite member, will encourage and guide the group as we study and capture the light in a watercolor painting.

Getting the lighting right involves color selection, understanding values, and composition...just about every skill set necessary to make a good painting.  We will work together using a couple of nature subject prompts to understand light, the subject, and how to we can capture it in a painting.

Along with your regular painting supplies, please bring at least 2 sheets of good quality watercolor paper (I prefer 140 pound arches cold press), and a sketch book.  I will be working on two sheets of 11"x15" Arches paper and I suggest that participants use approximately the same sized paper.

Bring a sack lunch, sweater/light jacket (in case the room temp is cool).  We’ll have snacks and coffee!

OCTOBER MONTHLY PAINT-IN: Creating Landscapes with Acrylics and Sponge Painting with Gay Paratore

    Class:  9:30-3:00 on October 19, 2019

Gay Paratore is a WAS-H Signature Elite member as well as member of NWS, NSA, TWS, and SDWS.   She will show us how “sponge painting with acrylics” can be so easy and so much fun.   We will learn how to dab, streak, and smear to create clouds, mountains, rocks, bushes, trees, and flowers in a field.

You will be shown how to make good sponges for painting – with different shapes to paint different textures. This will be a fun day to get a painting done quickly.  Each student will create at least one 11x15 painting.

Bring a sack lunch, sweater/light jacket (in case the room temp is cool).  We’ll have snacks and coffee!

NOTE:  wear old clothes or something you hate!  Acrylics do not wash out easily.

    Supplies:

•2 sheets of Arches paper (any texture) - torn to 11x15

•Bring your own reference photos or magazine clippings of the following:   grass, flowers in grass, bushes, trees, clouds, sunsets, beach scenes.   They are easy to do with sponges.  The teacher will also bring some.

•Liquitex Basics or similar (thick acrylics do not work well).  I recommend a set of 7 colors of 75 ml tubes.  If you have soft acrylics, bring what you have!  Necessary colors:  red, yellow, blue, black, white, purple, and orange

•1 liner/rigger brush for small limbs and a few assorted brushes for other details

•Several new cheap kitchen sponges, the kind that get hard after you have used them.  Wash the stiffener from them before you come to class.  (Don’t buy the ones that have a scrubber pad on them)

    •2 pair of pliers

•2 large Cool Whip tubs big enough to get your hand in

•1 palette knife (with bent handle, as flat ones are messy)

•Plastic paper palette or butcher paper taped to cardboard (shiny side up).  Bring several sheets, the paint tends to spread out

    •Roll of paper towels

    •2 old wash cloths
